4.2 Apron movements
Apron movements are co-ordinated by the duty manager. Any hazard seen on the apron is to be reported on the safety report form before the next movement.
Open reports are reviewed at the safety meeting.

Keep working when the signal drops.
Switch the example between connected and offline to see what the phone shows. A report written offline is sent only when a connection returns.
What happens when the signal goes
| You want to… | With no signal | With a signal |
|---|---|---|
| Read a document | Yes, any document already on the phone (PDF). | Yes. A document not yet on the phone is fetched when you open it. |
| Find a word inside a document | Yes. It tells you how many matches and on which pages. | Yes. |
| Ask your documents a question | Yes, as a search: the passages on the phone that use your words, quoted as written. No assistant. | Yes. If your company has switched the assistant on, it picks the passages that answer; every quotation is checked against the passage and one that is not there is thrown away. |
| Write a safety report, with photos | Yes. It is kept locked on the phone. | Sent at once. A report written with no signal is sent by itself as soon as there is one and the app is open. |
| Acknowledge a security alert | Yes. It is kept and sent later with the time you pressed it. | Sent at once. |
| Get a new or changed document | No. It arrives when you are next in range. | Yes, by itself. |
| See new messages | No, only the ones already on the phone. | Yes, and a notice can tell you. |
How it keeps itself right
It looks for changes by itself
When the app opens, when it is unlocked, when it comes back to the front, every ten minutes while it is open, and whenever the connection changes. It uses Wi-Fi, and mobile data only if the person has turned that on.
Checked on arrival
Each copy is checked against the one the server holds. A copy that is out of date is never shown as current. A document that is withdrawn, or that the person’s role no longer sees, is removed from the phone.
A nudge when a phone is behind
When a document is new or reissued, the server can send a notice to the phones that are behind. A notice names the documents, never what is inside them.
The company can see who is behind
The administrator sees each phone, when it last reported, and which documents are older or missing. A phone that has not reported is shown as not reported, never as up to date.
What it does not do
It cannot check while the app is closed. A notice can nudge a phone, but the phone fetches only when the app is opened and unlocked.
A locked phone cannot save documents until its PIN is entered. That is by design.
Only PDFs can be read in the app. A document that is a scan has no words to search until someone adds a text version.
Not every web function works offline. The website needs a connection.

Questions to ask any safety system about working offline
Use these with us, and with anyone else you are considering.
- Can I read a document with no signal, and does the phone say when the copy it holds is out of date?
- If a document is withdrawn or reissued, how does each phone find out, and can the company see which phones are behind?
- Can I write a report, with photos, with no signal? Where is it kept until it is sent, and who can read it there?
- What is lost if someone signs out, or the phone is wiped, before a report has been sent? Does the app tell them first?
- Can I search my documents offline, and are the results the words as written or a summary?
- If an assistant answers questions, can I see exactly where each answer comes from, and what happens when the documents say nothing?
- When several people share a phone, can each open only their own documents and reports?
- What does the system say about what it has not been able to check?
